Along with everyone else out there, the team at DPX wants to express appreciation for all the truckers (and their families!) who keep America moving. We know this is a difficult time with concerns about your family and your personal health, as well as the extra challenges of picking up and delivering loads in this environment. Thank you!
My father drove a truck through most of my childhood years. I have seen the world through the eyes of child yearning for their father to return home after weeks on the road. Those times having dad at home were precious. Now, fast forward to today, and after spending the last 25 years in the trucking industry, I have a much stronger appreciation for all my dad went through, and how it affected he and I.
Trucking was so cool when I was a kid. We watched Smokey and the Bandit, and watched television shows like B.J. and the Bear! My dad was the coolest guy and the fact that he drove a big rig made him my hero! I have often thought, what happened over the years to make trucking uncool or lose the respect of society? It is times like these where the world gets reminded of just how important truck drivers and the trucking industry really are. Society has taken for granted that stores have plenty of food and supplies on hand to cater to our every need or desire.
I appreciate the many companies and news organizations thanking truck drivers over the last several days for their commitment to keep products delivered to stores. I have seen closed restaurants offer to bring food out to truckers, open parking lots or restrooms so that they can get a meal, some sleep, or use the facilities.
I worry that once the pandemic is behind us, once we have all the toilet paper and food we need, what about that truck driver still out there just doing what they do! Truckers keep our economy, our country, our families, our homes, alive!!
My family and especially my kids have a tremendous amount of love and respect for truck drivers. They still think trucking is cool, and it doesn’t take a national emergency to remember the folks that unselfishly sacrifice their time and talent to keep America moving. It is cool to be a trucker, always has been and always will!
